[Activities]
We would like to introduce the Japanese technology for rice farming. For those who would like to participate in JCGEC’s rice farming, we are considering those who have been devastated by the past Great Earthquake on March 11th, 2011, those in need land for farming, those who feel that there is a limit for agriculture in cold areas, and those who would like to instruct Cambodian farmers about technologies and skills you have.
Presently, we are working out a design for farm land that we plan on acquiring so that we can consider construction for irrigation system such as water storage, roads for transportation, and electric power equipment, securing necessary agricultural machineries and residential housing near the farm land. Meanwhile, we are also planning recruitment for Japanese agriculture experts and Cambodian farm workers.
Because this is a rice business in vast land, a detailed plan is important, and ensuring the schedule before starting the business is an issue that needs to be resolved immediately. We hope to start single-season cropping by the year 2014, and we would like to realize semi-annual cropping from the year 2015.
[Scope of Our Business]
1. Rice Farming
Cambodia has a flat land with nutrients and abundant water resource, and is a nation suitable for agriculture. Food crisis in the future is a great concern with increase in global population; however, we at JCGEC believe that Cambodia is a nation that can be a world’s food provider, which will eliminate possibility of such crisis. The Royal Government of Cambodia has recognized the importance and adopted a policy to export one million tons of milled rice by the fiscal year 2015.
JCGEC, in order to contribute to the policy achievement, is preparing to start large-scale rice farming by attempting to acquire 12,150-ha land in Battambang Province and 25,600-ha land in Kampong Thom Province. We have started speaking with government officials and landowners, and meanwhile we are proceeding with recruiting farm workers and procuring machineries and equipment.
2. Food Processing
Cambodia is very well known for its fruits. There are many fruits in production: mangos in front of house, watermelons on side road, papayas and pineapples in plantations, durians, mangosteen and others. However, those fruits are mainly for domestic consumption.
Our company considers processing these fruits and exporting processed products to all over the world in the future, so that Cambodian fruits become known better.
3. Crop Production
Supplies of maize and soybean continue to run short of demand because of food consumption and oil expression, and prices are continuously increasing.
The main cause of supply shortage is because of increase in global population as well as effects by unstable climate throughout the world. There are rainy and dry seasons in Cambodia, and the climate is comparatively stable with few typhoons and earthquakes. JCGEC would like to resolve crop supply shortages.
4. Coffee Production
South America is famous for coffee production, however; recently Vietnamese coffee is getting attention. There are coffee farms near the Cambodia-Vietnam border, and sweet Cambodian coffee is becoming a premium brand. JCGEC has secured a candidate farmland near the boarder and is considering coffee production business after the land becomes reclaimed.
5. Acerola Production
Acerola, which is known for skin-brightening and skin enrichment effects, stress reduction, protection against anemia and lifestyle related diseases, and other numerous effects for health, is a leafy small tree or shrub that originates in West Indies, Northern South America and Central America, and is a fruit that looks like cherry with bright red skin.
Acerola is a tropical fruit and is suited for the climate in Cambodia, judging by the fruit’s origins. Because it is mostly used for health food products, the fruit continues to be scarce. JCGEC is considering launching acerola production business near the coffee plantation.
